  I was referred to the orthopedics department of the Hull hospital by my GP to discuss the possibility of a shoulder replacement. I later met with an orthopedic surgeon and was scheduled for shoulder replacement surgery in late August. In late July I completed all the required pre-op testing - CT scans, blood work, met with anaesthesiologist, pre-op nurse etc. then about 2 weeks prior to my operation date I received a call saying that my operation had been cancelled. I received no explanation from anyone, no call from the surgeon' office as to why the surgery was cancelled so called the pre-op nurse to inquire as to the reason my surgery was cancelled. The pre-op nurse suggested that call the surgery scheduling department. I tried calling several times left messages but never connected with anyone and no one ever returned my calls, so have no idea what has become of my case. Surely a call with some sort of explanation is not to much to ask for - will I be re-scheduled, has the surgeon decided surgery is not needed, is there some reason that they should not operate? I guess I should be thankful that I did not have the surgery there as they are obviously very poorly organized and not at all interested in providing appropriate patient care.

  To the ORTHO DEPT... Why don't you FIX the phone system?! I am told to dial 9 for English... and yes, they give you a list of things you may be looking for.... New appointments, Follow up appointments, etc... and which number to push... but when you push that number... the instructions are only in French... And when you finish listening, and don't know what to do... IT HANGS UP ON YOU... This is not a Language thing... this is an INCOMPETENCE thing, since I have found this phone issue to be happening for 8 months now. When I FINALLY had a local girl contact the Hospital for me... they said they are aware of the phone problems... and that the best way to get an appointment would be for me to Drive to the Hospital [1 hour drive], go to the waiting room to make an appointment... [1 to 8 hours wait time].. [Pay ridiculous price for parking].. then... a 1 hour drive home again...... Only to have to GO BACK AGAIN for the appointment date. SURELY YOU CAN FIX THE PHONE MESSAGES TO TELL US IN ENGLISH.. SO WE CAN LEAVE A MESSAGE!!! [Note:.. I have been trying to make a follow up appointment for over 2 months.]
